THE PERFECT BASE FOR NAILS – WELL DONE, HALF DONE!

A good base is essential to have beautiful nail perfectly polished, whether with varnish or gel. Here’s what you can do or advise to ensure your clients have perfect nails.

1. DISCOLORATIONS

What is it about ?

‘Nail discoloration can have many causes,’ says Debbie Van Lint, product development manager at ProNails. Thus, some diseases give the nails a blue or green color. If you realize it suddenly, I advise you to consult a doctor. In addition, nicotine leaves a brownish deposit on the nails. But the most common culprit – and the most harmless – is nail polish: some pigments can indeed penetrate the nail and give it a disgraceful yellow glare. ‘

Prevention?

“Always apply a special basecoat before putting a bright color on your nails,” says the nail specialist. A simple layer of clear varnish is not enough, it serves to give an extra shine to the nails. A base is really a layer of protection, which insulates the nail and, thanks to its special formula, the colored varnish that you apply on top stays pretty longer. Moreover, it is important to invest in a good nail polish remover. Choose in any case a solvent without acetone, because this substance damages the natural structure of the nails, makes them porous and therefore more sensitive to discolorations.

Remedy?

‘If you forget to apply a base and your nails are yellow, you can file the top layer with a polishing file , but do not do it too often, once or twice a month. Another possibility is to soak the tips of your fingers in lemon juice or water with whitening powder. Do not forget to apply a nourishing serum or nail polish to help your nails recover. ‘

2. WHITE SPOTS

What is it about ?

‘Every once in a while there are small white spots on the nails. They are completely harmless and absolutely not the sign of a deficiency of calcium or other minerals, as it is often said: they occur as a result of small nail growth defects. These are indeed made of keratin cells, which are initially white. This is clearly seen when you look at the lunula at the base of the nails, much lighter in color than the rest. As the nail grows, the cells become transparent and have a light pink appearance. But if you hit the nail or the cuticle at the root of the nail is damaged, the growth of the keratin cells is disturbed and they remain white, which causes stains, “says Debbie.

Prevention?

‘The only thing we can do to avoid small tasks is to properly treat the cuticles and not to bump into them. But it’s not obvious of course. ‘

Remedy?

‘ A cheerful color easily hides imperfections. Do not despair if you ever have a big white spot, it will eventually disappear with time. ‘

3. IRREGULARITIES

What is it about ?

Some people’s nails are not uniformly smooth, but have horizontal or vertical streaks. It does not matter, even if it’s not very pretty. ‘

Prevention?

‘Irregularities may be due to old trauma. If the nail matrix is damaged, the nail continues to push in the same way. Unfortunately, there is nothing left to do except to try to avoid accidents. In addition, striated nails are a characteristic sign of aging.

Remedy?

‘Camouflage irregularities with a filling base . If you apply it under a colored varnish, the relief is hardly visible any more. One can also try to polish the minimal streaks with a polishing file, but without exaggerating to avoid damaging the nail. ‘
